Design is coming to New York this May, and big time! Celebrating its 10th-anniversary and the creativity of New York, the NYCxDesign Festival (May 10–20) offers up various events citywide, including the festival’s anchor events, ICFF 2022 + WantedDesign Manhattan at the Javits Center (May 15–17). NYCxDesign 2022 | May 10–20 & Beyond!

The NYCxDESIGN Awards honor outstanding products and projects in categories that span major areas of design, from architecture to interiors, from products to accessories. Winners and honorees represent the very best design talent and will be recognized during the live ceremony hosted by Interior Design editor-in-chief Cindy Allen.

The Hemlines to Skylines exhibition is a tribute to the concrete and steel beauty we experience daily as New Yorkers. It features over-the-top sculptural garments created by students from the SVA’s BFA Design and BFA Interior Design: Built Environments programs.

Duffy Square, New York City, NY

CLB Architects presents FILTER. The antithesis of Times Square, FILTER is quiet and serves as a moment for inward-looking. The installation intends to create a place of contemplation where one is removed from the chaos of city noise and everyday life.

MvVO ART presents AD ART SHOW 2022-on the 22 monumental high impact Advertising screens at the Oculus at Westfield World Trade Center, featuring new artists following in the footsteps of Andy Warhol, Rene Magritte, Edward Hopper, and many other famous artists who began their careers in Advertising/Design and related fields.

The Grief Gallery presents She Was Asian American during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, May 2022. This edition of The Grief Gallery features photographs, belongings and stories of Asian American women, including curator Charlene Lam’s Chinese-American mother and other family members (all proud New Yorkers) as well as items contributed by members of the AAPI community.

Join CROWN GOOSE for a virtual launch of its bespoke Majesty Collection in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II, which will be available for sale for a limited time to the public beginning on June 1st.

Craft in Transition merges the dynamic artwork of 12 established and emerging artists and designers of the Female Design Council with Carl Hansen & Søn’s heritage furniture in a collaborative exhibition that celebrates craftsmanship, process, and thoughtful design.

Botanica is anchored by an environmental installation of Botanica chandeliers designed by New York-based Andreea Avram Rusu (NYCxDESIGN Award Finalist!). It includes work inspired by nature by Patrick Weder, Trish DeMasi, Edward McHugh, Gregory Nangle, Gulla Jonsdottir, Andy Paiko, Feyza Kemahlioglu, Stephen Shaheen, and Reynold Rodriguez.

Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum 2 East 91st St, New York, NY

Interpretations of botanical forms wind their way through the decorative arts of the late 18th through the early 20th centuries. Botanical Expressions focuses on key figures-Christopher Dresser, Emile Gallé, William Morris, and Louis Comfort Tiffany-whose knowledge of the natural sciences and personal practices of gardening enriched their creative output as designers. A timeline of objects reflects botanicals in form and pattern, highlighting shifting styles across geography and media in textiles, ceramics, glass, wallcoverings, and more.

WantedDesign Manhattan 2022

Held at Javits in conjunction with ICFF 2022, the WantedDesign Manhattan trade event also makes its return this year! WantedDesign is a platform dedicated to fostering the international creative community at large throughout the year and is a constant and staunch supporter of emerging design in the U.S.

Check out the events Launch Pad 2022 program, a platform for emerging designers to showcase prototypes of furniture, home accessories, and lighting.

And don’t miss WantedDesign Manhattan’s North American Look Book 2022, an inspiring and diverse selection of North American-based studios and designers.
